Administrative Positions
Administrative Positions are certified positions such as a principal, assistant principal, or other similar position.   

Certified Positions
Certified positions are jobs that require teacher certification (examples include teachers, counselors, therapists, etc).  If you are applying for a certified position, make sure to include a copy of your college transcripts and your current resume to your application.

Classified Positions
Classified positions are jobs that do not require a teaching certificate.  Examples include maintenance, child nutrition, clerical, support aides, bus drivers, substitute teachers, and other support staff.

Substitute Teaching Positions, Qualifications, and Rates of Pay

Substitute Teachers are employed per diem to provide supervision and maintain a safe, orderly, and productive learning environment for students during the absence of the Classroom Teacher. Scheduling is arranged by the administrative staff at each local school. Substitute assignments may be adjusted or cancelled as determined by the Principal. Candidates for substitute teaching must successfully complete a criminal background check and fingerprinting through both the (ABI) Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the (FBI) Federal Bureau of Investigation. 

 

Non-Degreed Substitute Teacher 

Rate of Pay: $75.00 per day

Scheduling Terms: Short-term Assignments Only

Non-Certified Substitute Teachers are individuals who do not possess Bachelors degree or higher from an accredited college or university and do not hold a current Alabama Professional Educator Certificate. Non-Certified Substitute Teachers must hold a valid Substitute License issued by the Alabama State Department of Education. Non-Certified Substitute Teachers may only complete short-term assignments lasting no more than 19 consecutive days in one classroom. 

 

Degreed or Certified Substitute Teacher

Rate of Pay: $90.00 per day - Short-term (1 to 19 consecutive days)

Rate of Pay: $125.00 per day - Long-term (20 or more consecutive days)***

Scheduling Terms: Short-term and/or Long-term Assignments

Degreed Substitute Teachers are individuals who possess a Bachelors degree or higher from an accredited college or university and a valid Substitute License issued by the Alabama State Department of Education, but do not hold a current Alabama Professional Education Certificate. 

Certified Substitute Teachers are individuals who possess a Bachelors degree or higher from an accredited college or university, a valid Substitute License issues by the Alabama State Department of Education, and a current Alabama Professional Educator Certificate.

***Long-term Substitute Teachers MUST hold a current Alabama Professional Educator Certificate*** 

Support Staff Substitute Positions and Pay 

  • Substitute Teacher Aide= $75 per day

  • Nurse (LPN or RN)= $150 per day

  • Custodians= $75 per day

  • Child Nutrition Program Worker= $75

  • Bus Drivers= $50 Full Route / $25 Half Route
