Barbour County Schools is pleased to welcome Ms. Natasha Foster, our new Director of Curriculum and Instruction.
Natasha Foster is a dedicated and experienced educator who has excelled in various leadership roles within the field of education. Ms. Foster’s journey in education began in Auburn, AL where she attended Auburn City Schools, however she has strong ties to Roba, AL. She received her undergraduate degree from Auburn University at Montgomery in Elementary Education with a specialization in reading. This specialty area informed her leadership and teaching approach, as she views literacy as the foundation of academic progress. Ms. Foster earned her master’s degree in Elementary Education with a specialization in reading from Auburn University at Montgomery in Elementary Education and her Educational Administration degree from Stetson University in Celebration, FL.
Drawing from over 25 years of experience, including 8 years in educational leadership, Ms. Foster has served in various leadership positions in the Lee County School District. Her exceptional knowledge, skills, and dedication led to her most recent position as Student Services Coordinator of Lee County Schools. Prior to that, she served as an Elementary School Principal, High School Assistant Principal, Interim Elementary Assistant Principal and Instructional Coach in Lee County Schools. Notably, during her tenure as an Elementary Principal at a previously low-performing school, Ms. Foster’s transformational leadership post-COVID resulted in the school’s recognition as one of the top 25 schools in the state, as indicated on the state report card. This remarkable progress was acknowledged by Alabama Department of Education earning it the title “Most Improved” and awarded a $8,000 grant for the 2021-22 school year.
Prior to joining Lee County, she has many other leadership experiences including mentor teacher, instructional reading coach, curriculum instructional coach and school transformation coach in Orange County Public Schools, Orlando, FL. In addition, Ms. Foster’s extensive knowledge in Special Education, transforming high poverty low performing schools and her commitment to student success makes her an invaluable asset to our district. Even with these amazing experiences, she says that she will always be a teacher at heart.
Ms. Foster has created, organized and provided a wide variety of professional development opportunities, including such as deconstructing standards, Section 504, student engagement strategies and data driven planning for staff. Additionally, she has served on several committees that includes, curriculum development, strategic planning, student code of conduct and textbook adoption. She enjoys working collaboratively with colleagues to maximize learning opportunities for the students and families that she serves. Although she has demonstrated her effectiveness as a teacher in the classroom and has built capacity for the use of effective instructional strategies among many of her colleagues, she wants to “pay forward” the experiences she had as a teacher, coach and instructional leader to the many innovative teachers and leaders she serves in Barbour County. She states, “I made this move to Barbour County, because I know that I can help make a positive difference here and provide stability in leadership. I am committed to this community and plan to be here for years to come. I am a supportive leader who is here to listen to the needs of all stakeholders. I will use my leadership skills to help accomplish the district’s vision and goals. I can’t tell you how excited I am to be here and to get started! Please don’t hesitate to reach out with questions. I will be here to support your students and family in any way I can!”
She believes that teachers and students will take risks when they know they are supported through timely feedback, high quality resources, and opportunities for growth. She further believes partnerships with parents and community partners are essential to enriching the experience at Barbour County Schools. She encourages you to join her in supporting a culture of excellence by actively participating in your child's educational experience.
During her free time, she enjoys gardening and spending time with family.
